BOYD'S SPEEDWAY GENERAL RULES
Official copies of Track Rules will be available at the
track
The rules printed here are for information only
Protest and Protest Fees
All classes: a $400.00 protest fee to pull (1) cylinder
head. This includes top side of engine. $100.00 fee for
the next cylinder head.$100.00 fee for the camshaft.$100.00
fee for the oil pan. Protest fees must be posted no later
than (5) minutes after the feature race. Protest fee must
be given to the tech man along with explanation of what
is being protested. A visual protest must be made before
racing starts. Any car refusing to teardown is barred
for next 2 races.. Car owner, driver, mechanic of protested
car and car owner or mechanic of protesting car along
with track officials are the only ones allowed in the
protest area. NO EXCEPTIONS.
1 Track officials will set a fee for miscelleanous protest.
2 A car may be protested only by the car that finishes(1)
position behind.
3 All cars must post weight to be visible to tech man
or scale operator
4 All starts will be 2 cars side by side. After 3 attempts
to start race, cars will line up single file. If the race
is stopped after the first lap, the cars will restart
in single file in the same position they were running
at time of red flag. The flagman reserves the right to
stop race at any time.
5 To be the official leader of the race, the field must
have completed the first green lap.
6 All cars will be paid according to laps completed.
7 Payoff on red-checkered will be same as restart.
8 First time competitors with minor violations will be
allowed to race with a weight penalty.
9 2 courtesy laps will be given in feature races only.
10 Any car can be inspected by track official at anytime.
11 Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times in pit area.
12 Pit admission is an entry fee, not an admission for
entertainment.
13 All drivers and/or car owners must give social security
number, name and address at sign in.
14 Owners/drivers must keep up with winnings and expenses
pertaining to income taxes.
15 Winnings not collected race night will be forfeited.
16 Anyone entering pit area must purchase pit pass and
sign release form.
17 No one entering pit area shall have any claims for
damages, expenses or otherwise against the track or any
of its officials.
18 All cars must be ready to race when entering track
[gas caps, hood pins, air cleaners]any car needing correction
will go to pits and restart in the rear of the field.
19 Minor repair work will be done on front straight by
track officials [pulling fenders/quarters]
If they cannot do repair car will be sent to pits for
their crew to repair, will restart in rear.
20 All drivers under 14 years of age must have a "Minor's
Release" form signed by both parents or legal guardians
and notarized on file before they are permitted to race.
21 Anyone caught drinking or taking drugs or smoking drugs
will be suspended for 4 weeks on first offense, second
offense will be suspended for remainder of season.
22 Drivers and/or car owners are responsible for entire
crew.
23 No rough driving will be tolerated. Track officials
decision final.
24 All cars entering, exiting or traveling through pits
must do so at a slow pace.
25 Driver is responsible for being lined up prior to start
of their race. If not in line car or cars must start in
rear of field. LINE-UPS WILL BE POSTED. Look at them or
see pit official.
26 A driver may not switch classes after hot laps. One
class per night.
27 Any car causing 2 caution flags will be sent to pit
area.
28 Any car entering pits during race must restart in rear
of field.
29 Car or cars damaged on first start will maintain their
starting position.
30 Any car not liking the start and pulling up to cause
a caution will be sent to the rear of field.
31 Refusing to obey officials will result in a penalty
by track officials.
32 No racing back to the caution flag except after field
has taken white flag [flagman's decision].
33 Car numbers must be a minimum of 18" tall and
3" wide. On both sides and roof.
34 Officials have the right to change car numbers to avoid
duplication.
35 All cars must have a working starter and start under
their own power.
36 All cars must have a driveshaft loop for safety.
37 All batteries must be located in a safe position in
a battery box welded to chassis.
38 No mirrors allowed in any class.
39 No two-way radios allowed.
40 No four-wheel drives allowed.
41 No electric fuel pumps allowed except in front runner
class.
42 After feature race is completed the top 5 cars must
go directly to the scales in all classes.
43 No driver to exit car on track, you will be disqualified
[unless you are in harms way]
44 RACEIVERS ARE MANDATORY IN ALL CLASSES.
45 Anyone caught chemically treating tires is barred for
2 races 1st offense,4 races 2nd offense and 3rd offense
will be for remainder of season. No Exceptions.
46 ANY RACER GIVING TRACK OFFICALS OBSCENE GESTURES WILL
BE PARKED FOR REMAINDER OF NIGHT.
47 REQUIRED MUFFLER FOR BOYDS SPEEDWAY IS #SCH112530 FOR
3" OR #112535 FOR 3 1/2" HEADERS. Boyd's Speedway
reserves the right to change, add or delete any rules
in the interest of fair and equal competition.
Steelhead Late Model
1.Mufflers are mandatory,SCH112530 OR SCH112535 ONLY
2.Weight-2300 for 362 c.i.anytime.2400 anytime for 363&larger
3.Block- Any steel block
4.Cranks-Any steel crank (no titanium )
5.Rods-Any steel rod (no titanium)
6.Pistons-Any piston allowed
7.Cam-Any camshaft allowed
8.Lifters-Any lifter allowed
9.Heads-Any 23 degree head for GM . Ford 10 degree
10.Valves-Any valve allowed
11.Valve springs/retainers/keepers-any type allowed
12.Rockers-Any rocker allowed
13.Racing valve job permitted
14.Dry sump oil system allowed
15.Carburetor- One (1)four barrel allowed
16.Fuel-GAS only (no alcohol or nitrous oxide)
17.Ignition system-any type allowed
18.Tires-American Racer MD-56 or Hoosier 55/1600 shoulder
plate on rear only. Front tires are open. No chemical
treating allowed. 19.Body/Chassis/Brakes/Wheelbase same
as Lucas/Woo/Sas/Srrs
20.Driveshaft must be painted White All cars are subject
for inspection and P/G at any time by officials A Full
Containment Seat Is Highly Recommended A Full fire suit
is required/Gloves recommended A Snell 2000 or later helmet
is required

All cars are subject for inspection and P/G at any time

A Full Containment Seat Is Highly Recommended
A Full Fire-suit is required/Gloves recommended
A Snell 2000 or later helmet is required

Fire Extinguishers mandatory in all cars
1.Bodies-1970-2011 models allowed

A.2500 anytime GM602 crate engine

D. Steel blocks only, may be bored to casting limits
E. Flat top pistons only. Cannot come above deck
F. Crank and rods must be stock or stock replacement (stock
stroke and stock rod length. Scat/Eagle parts legal
G. Balancing permitted but no lighting or knife-edging
allowed
H. Polishing stock rods allowed

3.Heads
A. Any steal OEM 23 degree head allowed

4. Cams
A. Any hydraulic or flat tappet cam and lifters allowed

7. Headers
A. Any type header allowed/must run parallel to ground

9. Flywheel
A. Stock steel flywheel only no lightening of any kind
B. Stock type single disc clutch and pressure plate only
C. No direct drives allowed
D. Automatics must have OEM torque converter
10. Frames
A. Must be stock clip from midplate forward
B. Tubular upper a-arms permitted/must be in stock location
C. Rack&Pinion steering allowed
D. Multi-leaf or 3 link rear suspension only
E. 104 inch wheelbase minimum
F. Rollbars must be steel tubing with 1 ½ inch
minimum diameter
G. Tubing wall thickness must be .083 minimum
H. No coilovers allowed/no birdcages/no brake floaters
allowed
I. Number 1 plug must be in line with upper ball joint
11. Rearaxle
A. Stock type or quick-change with steel tubes
B. Wide 5 hubs allowed
C. Racing shocks and wedge bolts allowed
D. No independent rear suspension permitted
12. Transmissions
A. Must be OEM type[standard or automatic]
B. Must use blowproof bellhousing on standard shift
D. Driveshaft must be painted White
13. Seats
A. Must have racing seat
B. Must have 4 or 5 point safety belts
14. Firewall
A. Must have front and rear firewalls
15. Fuel cell
A. Fuel cell w/steel can and 2"steel straps mounted
in rear of car only
B. Gas only (no alcohol or nitrous oxide )
16. Brakes
A. Any type steel brakes allowed
17. Wheels/Tires
A. American racer 56 or Hoosier 55/1600 shoulder plated
B. Wheels may be steel or aluminum 14 max. wide
C. Beadlocks permitted
D. No chemical treating allowed
B-Hobby
Car & Body
A. 1970 cars or newer [American made]
B. 108" minimum wheelbase
C. Stock steel bodies only [no home made bodies]
D. Hulling is allowed but must have stock firewall &
floor-pan
E. All doors must be welded shut
F. Maximum 6" spoiler. 12"long side braces no
higher than spoiler
Engines
A. Any cubic inch allowed as long as block & crank
match
[350 block/350 crank or 400 block/400 crank]
B. Aluminum intake ok
C. Carburetor- One four barrel carburetor only
D. Headers permitted with mandatory mufflers
E. Any stock steel head/no aluminum heads
F. OEM ignition only
G. Block/crank/rods/heads/valves/valve springs/retainers
must be stock
H. Camshaft &lifters must be hydraulic [no exceptions]
I. No engine protest - .Swap rule of $750. Race Winner
ONLY by 2nd place finisher.
J. Mufflers are mandatory SCH 112530 OR SCH 112535 ONLY.
Suspension
A. Springs must be in stock location[no altering of spring
buckets]
B. Racing shocks permitted [steel only]
C. No wedge bolts or adjustable spring seats allowed
D. All front and rear suspension must be stock and in
stock location
E. Rear-ends may be locked
Transmissions
A. Must be stock [no direct drives]
B. Automatics must have OEM type converters [no bypass
valves]
C. Stock steel flywheel/clutch/pressure plate for straight
shift
Roll-cage
A. Must have at least an 8 point cage with door bars
B. Drivers door must have 3 door bars&2 on right door
C. Full roll cage is recommended
D. Tubing must be minimum 11/2" diameter & 0.083
wall thickness

A. Gas only
